Experimental Hydrate Formation and Gas Production Scenarios Based on Co2 Sequestration

چکیده
A number of laboratory experiments have investigated the rates and mechanisms of hydrate formation in coarse-grain porous media. They have shown the importance of initial water saturation and salinity on forming methane hydrates in mostly excess gas systems. Many of these experiments were conducted in a sample holder fitted within a MRI instrument that allowed for a unique method of monitoring hydrate formation by the loss of signal intensity as water and free gas are converted into a solid phase. The hydratesaturated samples were then subjected to various procedures to release the methane. Most of the experiments focused on the exchange of carbon dioxide for methane in the hydrate. The rates and efficiency of the exchange process were reproducible over a series of initial conditions, with the notable observation that no free water was observed during the exchange process. Permeability measurements on hydratesaturated core indicate a finite level of permeability to gas, even in cores where all of the free water was converted to hydrate. .

The aqueous mixtures of light gas molecules under low-temperature and high-pressure conditions are candidates to form gas hydrate clathrates. The formation of gas hydrate may lead to various problems and extra charges in natural gas production and processing. The presence of hydrate crystals forming a stable solid phase can potentially block the wells, pipes, and process facilities. To avoid su...

Concerns about the potential effects of rising carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere have stimulated interest in a number of carbon dioxide sequestration studies. One suggestion is the sequestration of carbon dioxide as clathrate hydrates by injection of carbon dioxide into methane hydrate. Energy-supply research estimates indicate that natural gas hydrates in arctic and sub-seafloor formatio...

Given that most of the gaseous constituents of industrial chimneys are usually carbon dioxide which is one of the most important greenhouse gases. It seems that the hydration process is one of the newest methods for the separation of this gas from gaseous mixtures. In the gas hydrate formation industry, in addition to disadvantages, there are some advantages such as gas separation, transmission...

Abstract: In this work, the kinetics of ethane hydrate formation has been studied experimentally and a kinetic model based on chemical affinity has been described for predicting the hydrate growth process in the stirred batch reactor at a constant volume. The experiments were done with both pure water and aqueous solution of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). The effect of SDS on formation kineti...
متن کاملMeasurement of Mass Transfer Coefficients of Natural Gas Mixture during Gas Hydrate Formation
In this study, mass transfer coefficients (MTC’s) of natural gas components during hydrate formation are reported. This work is based on the assumption that the transport of gas molecules from gas phase to aqueous phase is dominant among other resistances. Several experiments were conducted on a mixture of natural gas at different pressures and temperatures and the consumed gas was monitored an...
